NaPoWriMo/GloPoWriMo 2017 Entry #3

Inspired by Hanna Schmitz from the novel The Reader

Let her spirit float
Above all the letters and words
And books and poems and songs
She cannot read on her own

Remember the moments passed
When she asked someone to read outloud
All the books and words and songs
She cannot read on her own

It’s a secret she cannot tell
Would rather be jailed than to reveal
Her dark secret and lies
On how she cannot read on her own

Now she is free and light
And her body not held tight
She welcomed death on a stride
So she can read on her own

NaPoWriMo/ GloPoWriMo 2017 Entry #2

Little birds fly high

The sky’s so deep to fathom

When will the rain start to pour?

NOTE: I really want to respond to the prompt from http://www.napowrimo.net, but I think I’m not ready yet. I’ll just write the way I fee like writing one.

NaPoWriMo/GloPoWriMo 2017 Entry #1

Karipas ang takboMula sa libu-libong

Ala-ala mong
Nakaukit ng mariin
Sa bawat hiwa
Ng utak ko
At liko
Ng puso ko
At daluyan
Ng dugo ko

English translation:

Running fast
From the thousand
Memories that are
Sculpted so hard
On every crease
Of my brain
On turns
Of my heart
Where my
Blood flows

NaPoWriMo 2016 Entry # 25: Young Love

image

It’s the 28th day of the NaPoWriMo and I am 3 posts behind. To catch up, here is a response for the day’s prompt, and that that is to write a poem that tells a story. But wait! There’s more! The story should be told backwards, so the first line should tell what happened last and the rest of the lines will follow back to what happened first.

Off prompt and late post

image

Another off prompt and late post for NaPoWriMo.
Sa Gitna ng Kamatayan (In the Midst of Death) was written during the time of confusion and desperation to escape from a system of wear and tear. It’s a point in life when I realized that we are living in a system that really kills the ‘human’ in us. The graveyard where we live is not easily seen because we are so engrossed with material things and false symbols of accomplishment that the media has been feeding us ever since. We are so much engrossed that we forget to search for what really satisfies the soul.

NaPoWriMo 2016 Entry # 22

Off prompt and late.

Passion

How will I keep

This burning passion

In my heart

In my soul

In my person

Alive and strong

When it never knew home

In me

In my weakness

In my life

Because it always tears its home

In me

In my strength

In my drive

NaPoWriMo 2016 Entry # 21

Off prompt tagalog poem for day 21.

magumpisa ka
sa isang maliit
na butil ng pag-asa
dahan-dahang lalago
unti-unting lalawak
patungo sa kinabukasan
na nais matamasa

hindi madali ang daan
lalo na’t kung patarik
tahakin man ng dahan
binti’y mapapagal pa rin
lalo’t may mga balakid
na tutunaw sa laman
at kung kumitil ay marahan

sa pag-pili ng landas
lalo’t yung di lagi tinatahak
marami ang magtatanong
anong nakain mo’t napagtanto
na humakbang pasaliwa
palayo sa dikta ng madla
palayo sa salaping mayabong

ang pagpiling ito’y sa kabila
ng lahat ng tanong at agam-agam
pati na rin sa pagdududa
sa sariling mong katinuan
lalo na rin sa pagmamata
ng mga pusong puno ng duda

ikaw pa rin ay dapat tumugon
sa tawag ng pag-babago
ipagpatuloy ang pagpapakatao
pagmamahal sa bayan
pagpapayabong sa sarili
at paglilingkod sa kapwa tao

NaPoWriMo 2016 Entry # 20: Facebook

image

NaPoWriMo day 20 calls for a kenning poem, so here it is.

A book without pages
but has numbers of tales
filled with so much clutter
that creates an invisible jail

It serves as a stage
for everyone to be hailed
to share stories of triumph
or how a life was derailed

It has a big wide cover
that can change anyhow
and a picture of its author
far from how he looks now

It has illustrations of splendor
that could be speaking of the truth
It is also plastered by nonesense
don’t be disappointed by the uncouth

This book casts a strong spell
distorts your vision in many ways
about the world where you move
be careful not to fall prey

Also one thing to remember
this book brings you to far places
from your bedroom to a distant era
all together in great paces

NaPoWriMo 2016 Entry # 19: Guide for Girls on Walking in The Woods

28cdf54b1fee81ba9b5a9ac0c8ec684f
The photo above is not mine. It can be found here.

First you have to be born
To be born means to live
Be carefree, be naive

Then go chase a dream
Believe you can succeed
But never knew you had to bleed

The next step is to glide
On the icy sheets of luck
There are bumps but never get stuck

Go march out of the cold
Don’t mind your sore soles
Just be prepared on a path of burning coals

On your way you’ll meet a lot
Who will sell you tons of lies
Better be careful of their disguise

Somehow you can be lucky
To make friends along the way
Or find love that won’t decay

Oh but please, e’er check your map
Things like love could run so wild
Perturbations should never be compiled

If you think you’re halfway through
Be on guard, there’s so much more
Rain can be bad when it is decided to pour

There is failure you will find
It will scratch you deep and wide
Drown you down in a flood tide

Betrayal is also waiting for his turn
To snatch your feet as you aim to fly
And laugh at you as you ask “why?”

And death is just lurking around
Taking lives to cut into gores
Could be your pet’s, grandma’s or yours

But just go on and walk along
Run or jump if you want to
Beautiful things are also on queue

Remember the road is rough
For it was never made to be pleasing
But it expands your soul and you become thriving

For the 19th day of NaPoWriMo, the prompt is to write a didactic, a type of “poetry that explicitly sought to instruct the reader in some kind of skill or knowledge, whether moral, philosophical, or practical.”
